Bakso is the Indonesian most popular soup where you can practically find anywhere and everywhere on the streets. I got hooked with this simple dish some time ago while on an entourage to my father-in-law's kampung in Jawa Tengah. We took the train cos that was the fastest route to his homeland. On board, it served this simple yet delicious snack. I was in my early pregnancy that time, and instantly got hooked with it, with its freshness taste. It was flavoursome!
Ingredients
Sauce
Method
The first time I ate, I could only recalled the soup being peppery and of course soupy! So versatile the soup that you can have it on its own, with rice or my best preferance - noodles. Added on is the fiery-hot sauce. Ooh boy, this dish will gonna make you sweat. Once you slurp, you just cant stop. However, do be careful if you're adventurous enough to try those from street vendors cos they may be selling porkballs. Gotta ask and enquire first if you're a Muslim :)
Ingredients
4-5 candlenuts (blend till smooth)
1-2 tbsp pepper
Beef stock (I used 2 Knorr Beef Cube)
Meatballs
Salt to taste
Water
Some mustard greens (blanch)
Some cabbage (blanch)
Yellow Noodles
Fried shallots
Sauce
10-15 birds' eye chillies (deseed) }
1 clove garlic } Blend all together
Sweet sauce }
Method
1. Heat oil. Add in the blended candlenut and stir till cook.
2. Stir in pepper till fragrant.
3. Pour water and throw in the beef cube. Stir the soup.
4. Add seasonings to taste.
5. Once soup boils, add in the meatballs. Turnoff stove once meatballs are cooked.
6. Serve as above.
